Just How Evil Can They Be?

Alright, I hope you're sitting down. This one is, I don't know, maybe the single most outrageous thing I've heard from the Right since the inception of DoG.

*deep breath*

The drug companies may have created a vaccine for the human papillomavirus (HPV), a sexually transmitted disease which is the most common cause of cervical cancer. Cancer. Just repeating to make sure you realize how big of a deal this is. They can wipe this cause of cancer (cancer) right off the map by vaccinating every girl before she becomes sexually active.

Guess who's pro-cancer now? You betcha! The "sex is gross and dirty" abstinence-only jackasses are against this drug. Against a cancer preventing drug!

"The best way to prevent HPV is through abstinence," said Bridget Maher, an analyst at the Family Research Council, a conservative group that expects to campaign against making the vaccines mandatory for entering school. "I see potential harm in giving this vaccine to young women."
A drug that prevents women from getting this type of cancer is potentially harmful. Harmful how, do you suppose? Harmful in that the girls, free of the worry of cervical cancer, are going to whore themselves out to every man they pass on the street?

Hey there, grandma, I have GREAT news for you! You still have AIDS, gonorrhea, chlamydia, herpes, hepatitis, and the classic - telling your daughters that pre-marital semen contains a caustic acid that will rot out her insides, to frighten them from having deadly, dangerous, dirty, gross sex. But for the love of God, let's get on the Curing Cancer Train, you fucking psycho.

What happens when they find a vaccine for AIDS? I wonder if Bush's FDA would even let it go to market. I just... I'm... This is so beyond outrageous.

UPDATE: I'm sorry, I can't let this go, just one more thought. These family values people are against this drug under the pretense of so-called morality, right? But ask yourself - what could be more immoral than condemning a certain percentage of women to a slow and painful death by cancer before they are even old enough to make the decision for themselves? Seriously.

Dear Michael, you are responding emotionally with a low level of knowledge about this seriousness of hpv infection and the medical conditions it causes.HPV is a group of over 100 viruses that cause warts and papillomas of many kinds. Since the early 1990s and before, the medical professional and std contagious disease professionals have known that HPV cause over 90% of all cervical cancers. They have also known that since hpv is not a primarily body fluid infection, it lives on the epithelial cells ie SKIN! it is transmitted SKIN TO SKIN,condoms are not an effective primary prevention of HPV infection. the only time a condom would prevent transmission of the virus is if the infecton were located only in a place that the condom covered and in no other place.THis is an incredibly unlikely scenario, and research has confirmed that this almost never happens. It is evident that the infection is throughout the groins, vulva, perineum, anus and scrotum as well as the penis.. There are about 30 types that infect the genitourinary/anal area. Several types, especially type 16 and 18, cause cancer of the cervix, penis, anus, vagina, AND now they have been implicated in cancer of the mouth, tongue, tonsil, throat, esophagus. They also cause a conditin called recurrent respiratory papillomatosis that cause fingerlike projections to grow in the airways of infants who are infected with hPV 6 or 11 as they pass through the birth canal many times blocking off the airway and requiring literally hundreds of surgeries to remove them.Nice, huh? Essenitally, though the Public Health officials know this, they have prevented this info from getting to the general public for over 10 years, thus worsening the epidemic by allowing the public to believe that they could use a condom and protect themselves, and also by preventing the public from getting any of this information. The vaccine is in clinical trials and will not be resdy for several years, and in fact they can only create one vaccine for each specific type of vaccine, and right now they are working on 1type 16. The scientist working on the vaccine, , Dr. Koutsky says in her own research literature that the condom is not effective in stopping the transmission of this cancer causing sexually transmitted disease
Who looks like they like cancer now, Michael? PS Jesus loves you and really did take your place when he died, and he thinks about you Sincerely Dawn , an unfortunate nurse in a summer research course

correction, there are over 100 known types of HPV,they can only create one vaccine to work on one specific type of HPV at a time, they are working on type 16, but there are several types that cause cancer. And don't forget, viruses mutate. In the meantime, many young women could be protected NOW if they just knew the truth and could make that little thing called an "informed medical decision"
